Val d'Ossola's corn meal
The corn cultivation at Ossola has deep roots and dates back to a time when corn plants were used whole and it was customary to plant the fields based on the needs of the population. The town of Beura (municipality of the Park) wanted to discover its own roots and traditions, and created the "Polenta Beura" project.
The cultivated corn, on an area of eight hectares, is mostly from Ossola and its production could vary from year to year. Usually, 250 quintals of dried flour are stored. In addition, corn farmers could place their crops in a mill and then grind it for their personal consumption. Flour for polenta is obtained from stone-ground corn, but also flour for the production of other products, such as the sweet "Polentini di Beura" and craft beer.
